DIPLOMA OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY

OF MUSCULOSKELETAL RADIOLOGY (ESSR)

Definition

The ESSR Diploma is a certificate awarded by the ESSR on satisfactory completion of the programme within a 5 year period. Entry into the diploma programme is voluntary and open to any European radiologist who is either fully trained in general radiology or in the later stages of training. Those still in training should have completed a minimum of 3 years general training and have finished the musculoskeletal component of their general training. The diploma programme is also open to radiologists of European nationality currently in practice outside Europe or to non-European radiologists having completed a residency of at least 1 year in a European radiological training center . The diploma programme comprises 3 components (see category 1 – 3) which must be finished in max. 5 years.

Category Points can be counted retrospectively for 1 year from the date of registration for the diploma with the remaining points subsequently collected after registration.

Additionally, a fourth category, the Lund Virtual School is highly recommended but not obligatory.

Purpose

- To provide a uniform, high-quality, pan-european teaching programme in musculoskeletal imaging.
- To provide a focus for CME activities for the registrant over the 5 year period.
- To enhance the profile of musculoskeletal imaging in the field of diagnostic radiology and to strengthen the European perspective of the subspecialty.
- To promote communication and personal contacts amongst European radiologists with an interest in musculoskeletal imaging.
